Nissan Altima vs 2015 Mazda Mazda6

Quality and Value Analysis

Starting with the base MSRP, the Mazda6 and Nissan Altima are very close in comparison. Mazda6 costs only a few hundred more than Altima, even when both vehicles are comparably equipped. Although Altima is slightly cheaper, Mazda6 has a better residual value by 3% after 36 months. Altima is slightly more fuel efficient (27city/38hwy) than Mazda6 (26city/38hwy). Both vehicles have a 60 month 60,000 powertrain warranty.

Performance and Engineering

Mazda6 has very similar engine to Nissan Altima. Both vehicles have 2.5-Liter, I4, 16-Valve, DOHC Engines. Mazda6 has slightly better Horsepower (184@5700 rpm) and torque (285@3250) vs Altima’s 182@6000 horsepower and 180@4000 Torque. Nissan Altima has a bigger fuel tank (18 gal.) than Mazda6’s 16.4 gal. Mazda6’s braking and suspension is identical to Altima. The turning diameter is slightly different with Altima being 36.1 and Mazda6 at 36.7.

Safety and Security

Based on the safety ratings, Mazda6 is the safer vehicle for Phoenix, AZ Drivers. Altima and Mazda6 scored 5-star Front Driver Crash Test, Rear Side Crash Test, Overall rating, Overall side crash safety rating, and side pole crash safety rating. They both scored 4-star front passenger crash test, and rollover safety ratings. Mazda 6 has a better front side crash test, and overall side barrier crash safety rating than Altima. Mazda6 comes standard with second row head restraints, which are not available on Altima. Both vehicles come with vehicle stability control system, traction control, abs brakes, brake assist, and tire pressure monitoring system.

Comfort and Convenience

Mazda6 comes standard with Cruise Control, Rearview Camera, and floor mats. Floor Mats is an additional option on Altima, but the other features are not available on Altima at all. Nissan Altima does come with Steering wheel mounted audio controls, Tilt & telescopic steering column, front power outlets, rear window defroster, and a temperature gauge, but so does Mazda6. Although both cars have am/fm radio, seek, scan, cd-mp3 players, Mazda6 has the better sound system with speed sensitive volume, and 6 more speakers than Altima. Don’t forget about Mazda6’s folding signaling exterior rearview mirrors, Altima Drivers have to be careful because they don’t have folding mirrors.

Wheels and Tires

Mazda6 has standard Alloy Wheels that are larger (17′ Wheel Dimension) than Altima’s 16′. Both vehicles do come standard with all-season tires.
