Toyota Yaris L vs Mazda 2 Sport

Mazda2 is less expensive with a MSRP of $14,720 compared to Yaris MSRP of $15,455. Yaris’ engine is 106-horsepower 1.5-liters, Mazda2 has 100 horsepower 1.5-liters. Yaris only has automatic transmission available, so if you prefer manual Mazda2 has a 5-speed manual available as well as a 4-speed automatic transmission. Mazda2 gets 29city/35hwy MPG, Yaris gets 30city/36hwy, so it is slightly more efficient.


Yaris and Mazda2 both come with driver and passenger front impact airbags, rear center 3 point seatbelt, and ABS brakes. Only Mazda2 comes with immobilizer. Both hatchbacks are front wheel drive and come with AM/FM stereo, single CD, MP3 decoder, and integrated roof antenna. Yaris comes with satellite-prep.


Mazda2 and Yaris both have front A/c with filter, Cargo net, clock, front and rear cup holders, urethane gear shift knob trim, 1 12v DC power outlet, and available ashtray. Only Yaris has dual auxiliary visors, standard trip computer, Service interval warning, exterior temperature display, front map lights, and 1 seatback storage pocket. Only Mazda2 has compass, Standard carpet, power front and rear windows with 1-touch up/down for the driver, programmable garage door opener, tachometer, and retained accessory power. Both vehicles have available rubber front and rear floor mats, analog instrumentation (mazda2 also has digital), Low fuel warning, fade dome lighting, cargo light, rear window defogger, day-night rearview mirror, driver and passenger mirrors, mechanical fuel door release, tilt wheel adjustable steering column, and urethane steering wheel material.


Yaris and Mazda2 both have cloth trimmed seats. Front bucket seats, 5-passenger capacity, 4-way passenger seat direction controls, and adjustable front hear restraints. Only Mazda2 has 6-way front seat driver direction controls, Yaris only has 4-way controls. Mazda2 also has available center armrests, which isn’t available on Yaris. Mazda2’s rear seats are 60-40 bench, Yaris has full bench rear seats with 3-adjustable head restraints compared to Mazda2’s 2-adjustable rear head restraints.


Both vehicles have AM/FM stereo, seek-scan with in-dash mounted single cd-player with MP3 capability, auxiliary audio input, and speed sensitive volume. Only Mazda2 has available Navigation and bluetooth compatibility. Yaris has Satellite-prep and standard bluetooth compatibility. Mazda2 comes with 4 speakers and Yaris comes with 6.

Safety and Security

Airbags, traction control, front seatbelt pretensioners, halogen headlights, daytime running lights, power door locks with 2 stage unlock, rear child safety door locks, available first aid kit, and standard low tire pressure warning are safety features of Mazda2 and Yaris. In addition, Mazda2 has Front height adjustable safety belts, standard keyfob, panic alarm, and ignition disable. Yaris has available illuminated entry, available key fob, and available first aid kit.


Mazda2 has a basic 36 months/36,000 mile warranty, a 60 month/60,000 power train warranty, 60 month/unlimited corrosion/perforation warranty, and a 36month/36,000 roadside assistance warranty. Yaris has the same basic, power train, and corrosion/perforation warranties as Mazda2. Yaris’ roadside assistance warranty is only 24 month/25,000 miles, but it has an additional 24 month/25,000 mile maintenance warranty.


Both vehicles have integrated roof antenna, have fully galvanized steel body material, and have standard clearcoat monotone paint. Mazda2 has available pearlcoat and metallic paint. Bodyside moldings are available on Yaris, not on Mazda2. Yaris has black grille trim, Mazda2 has body colored trim. Only Mazda2 has available front fog/driving lights. Both vehicles have 4 doors, rear cargo liftgate door, light tinted windows, fixed rear window, and dual mirrors. Mazda2’s mirrors are operated remotely, Yaris had manual mirrors. Yaris has available lip spoiler, Mazda2 has available roof rack and rear step bumper. Both vehicles have 15″ compact steel spare tire and wheel, fixed interval rear window wipers, and available mud flaps. Mazda2 has variable intermittent front windshield wipers, Yaris has fixed interval front windshield wipers.
