Performance and Engineering

Nissan Rogue comes with a 2.5-Liter, I4, 16-Valve, DOHC, SEFI Engine, and Mazda CX-5 comes with a 2.5-Liter, I4, 16-Valve, DOHC, DI Engine. The engines only have one difference, but it really does make a difference when it comes to horsepower and torque. Nissan has horsepower of 170@6000 rpm, and torque of 175@4400 rpm. Not as good as Mazda’s horsepower of 184@5700 rpm and torque of 185@3250 rpm. CX-5 also has a slightly larger fuel tank that holds 14.8 gal, Rogue’s fuel tank holds 14.5 gal. CX-5 and Rogue have Front and Rear disc brakes, and hill start assist.

Safety and Security

It’s impossible to beat CX-5 Touring’s safety rating. Mazda scored higher than Nissan on the Front Driver Crash Test, Front Passenger Crash Test, Overall Rating, Overall Frontal Crash Safety Rating, and Side Pole Crash Safety Rating. Nissan didn’t score higher than Mazda in any safety ratings, both SUVs got the same score on the Front Side Crash Test, Rear Side Crash Test, Overall Side Crash Safety Rating, Overall Side Barrier Crash Safety Rating, and Rollover Safety Rating. Nissan and Mazda both have Seat Mounted Front Side Airbags, and Side Curtain Airbags, Vehicle Stability Control System, Traction Control, ABS Brakes, Brake Assist, and Tire Pressure Monitor. Mazda CX-5 is clearly the safer vehicle to drive in that Phoenix AZ traffic.

Comfort and Convenience

Both CX-5 and Rogue come standard with Power Windows and Door Locks. Only CX-5 comes standard with A/C. Both SUVs have Steering wheel mounted controls for Audio and Cruise Control, Rearview Camera, Tilt/Telescoping Adjustable Steering Column, 3 Front Power Outlets, Rear Window Defroster, and Exterior Temperature Gauge. Only CX-5 comes standard with Floor Mats, Rogue’s Floor Mats are optional.
